Open Edition - A herd of elephants moves through forests of mopane and apple leaf at sunset, northern Botswana
David Chancellor
I have so many routes into this story. So many emotions when I look at these images. All of my senses are screaming at me right now. So much beauty, so much trauma, and so much hope for the future is expressed right here in this work.
This is from ‘elephant politics’ for National Geographic - work shot over the past three years in Botswana, and being edited for publication in early 2022.
This is from the first edit, and right now I’ve entirely lost my heart, it’s wrapped tightly in the smells, tastes, sights and the sounds of life, and death, in the villages of northern Botswana where man and elephants live, and die, side by side.
