Open Edition - Arabian Leopard
David Chancellor
The last big cat to be found on the Arabian peninsula was the Arabian Leopard, and this majestic subspecies is now on the brink of extinction.
In 1994, the IUCN classified this leopard as endangered; a 2006 report estimated that there were fewer than 200 left roaming the Arabian wilderness.
It was the animal's beauty and majesty that turned this predator into prey. But perhaps this beauty, or its' threatened extinction, can now excite similar passions for its' salvation.
