Open Edition - Black Loch, Invercauld Estate, Scotland-from the series âbeastâ
David Chancellor
I came back to this image after the passing of a good friend, wildlife pilot Ian Lemaiyan.
Those of us who knew him well as a friend and colleague, have lost someone very special. However, itâs also those whose lives he indirectly touched so profoundly with his work, that will also feel this loss
Ian was a wildlife warrior, a pilot, a rhino researcher, a passionate conservationist, a father, a husband and a friend. When protecting the planetâs wildlife with feet firmly on the ground didnât quite cut it, he took to the untrespassed sanctity of the skies, more recently as a member of the air wing for Kenya Wildlife Services.
Your passing is just too too soon. So much stretched out in front of you, and all of it was within your reach. May you rest in peace in a place where your rhino roam eternal. I will forever miss your infectious smile.
Black Loch, Invercauld Estate, Scotland-from the series âbeast'
âOh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward Iâve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, â and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of â wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovâring there,
Iâve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
Iâve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew â
And, while with silent, lifting mind Iâve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
