Open Edition - Gathering Cotton, Tanzania
David Chancellor
Workers harvest organic cotton, Tanzania-This project for organic cotton was initiated in 1994. Its aim to support and improve the living conditions of farmers by organic farming.
By adopting organic farming practices, the farmer can produce his agricultural products environmentally friendly and without application of pesticides.
In addition he receives a better price and a purchase guarantee for organic cotton, as well as a premium price above the local market price. These advantages allow the farmers to attain a more stable and long-term financial security.
Farmers are integrated as partners into the bioRe® textile chain who also give advice to farmers to change their production system to organic farming and to improve their farming techniques.
